Will neural network always converge?

On page 231 of Neural Networks (by Haykin), he states that back propagation always converges, although the rate can be (in his words) “excruciatingly slow.”

Can neural networks solve non-linear problems?

A properly trained neural net can be helpful to predict and correct path searching on such complex terrain to accelerate convergence. However not only neural network can do such thing. In fact most practical non-linear optimization techniques are much simpler in structure and for general case exhibit good performance.

What is an Autoassociative network?

Autoassociative neural networks are feedforward nets trained to produce an approximation of the identity mapping between network inputs and outputs using backpropagation or similar learning procedures. The key feature of an autoassociative network is a dimensional bottleneck between input and output.

What is converge in neural network?

In the context of conventional artificial neural networks convergence describes a progression towards a network state where the network has learned to properly respond to a set of training patterns within some margin of error.

What gives non-linearity to neural network?

This non-linearity in the parameters/variables comes about two ways: 1) having more than one layer with neurons in your network (as exhibited above), or 2) having activation functions that result in weight non-linearities.

What does linearly separable data mean in physics?

Linearly separable data basically means that you can separate data with a point in 1D, a line in 2D, a plane in 3D and so on. A perceptron can only converge on linearly separable data.

Is the perceptron rule linearly separable?

When talking about neural networks, Mitchell states: “Although the perceptron rule finds a successful weight vector when the training examples are linearly separable, it can fail to converge if the examples are not linearly separable. I am having problems understanding what he means with “linearly separable”?

What are the different types of neural network architectures?

Neural network architectures. There are three fundamental classes of ANN architectures: Single layer feed forward architecture Multilayer feed forward architecture Recurrent networks architecture Before going to discuss all these architectures, we first discuss the mathematical details of a neuron at a single level.

Should I shuffle examples before training my neural network?

It always converged to predicting each class with equal probability. It was all fixed by using a Leaky ReLU instead of standard ReLU. If we are talking about classification tasks, then you should shuffle examples before training your net. I mean, don’t feed your net with thousands examples of class #1, after thousands examples of class #2, etc…
