What type of material is gravel?

Gravel /ˈɡrævəl/ is a loose aggregation of rock fragments. Gravel occurs naturally throughout the world as a result of sedimentary and erosive geologic processes; it is also produced in large quantities commercially as crushed stone.

Is gravel a natural rock?

Gravel is a loose aggregation of small, variously sized fragments of rock. The weathering and erosion of rocks is the natural process by which gravel deposits are formed. Gravel can also be produced in quarries known as gravel pits, where rocks such as sandstone, limestone and basalt are crushed down to size.

What is Type A gravel?

Description. 1 and 1/2 Inch MDOT Type A Gravel is a mixture of crushed rocks and sand which have all passed through a 1 and 1/2 inch square screen. This material will range in size from 1 and 1/2 inch down to the smallest sand particle and every size in between. This can also be called crush and run gravel.

Is gravel a compound?
