The Officers Training Academy (OTA) is a training establishment of the Indian Army that trains officers for the Short Service Commission (SSC). The 49-week course at the OTA prepares graduates for all branches of the Army, except for the Army Medical Corps.

What type of training is given in OTA?

Weapon Training of OTA offers a wide range of exposure in weapon handling. All Officer Cadets who pass out from the Academy undergo this Weapon training and achieve standards of “EK GOLI, EK DUSHMAN”. Officer Cadets are trained on various weapons held with the Indian Army at the Platoon and Company level.

There are two commissions of Indian Army: Permanent and short service commission. If you become an officer after passing out from IMA, you get a permanent commission and if you are trained at OTA, Chennai, you get a short service commission.

What is the training period for OTA in NDA?

OTA has a training period of 49 weeks. Female candidates are also eligible for OTA. The officer from OTA can serve for 10 years which can be extended till 14 years. After 14 years of completion, the officer will be given the option to end his or her service or to continue the service.

What is the difference between Ota and Indian Military Academy?

OTA officers have a short service duration of 14 years. After that, they can pursue their own goals or can also choose to continue their service. OTA has a training period of 49 weeks which prepares cadets to be a part of the Indian Army. As the training period is shorter than the Indian Military Academy it is more vigorous and intense.

What is the training period for IMA and Ota in India?

In case of IMA, the training period is 18 months but if candidate join through NDA then training period will be of only 12 months or 1 year. In case of OTA the training period if of 9 months and type of duty is short service commission. However service period can be extended by 2–3 year as per the performence.

The 49 weeks course at the OTA prepares graduates for all branches of the Army, except for the Army Medical Corps. Established on 15 January 1963, the academy is spread over 750 acres (3.0 km2) about 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) south of Chennai, India.
