What do you understand by throttle governing and nozzle governing?

This governing is usually working in both impulse turbines and reaction turbines. This governing is realized through throttling of steam at inlet to turbine so there occur severe throttling losses. This governing is realized through nozzle control so degree of throttling losses in valves is small.

What is nozzle governing?

In nozzle governing the flow rate of steam is regulated by opening and shutting of sets of nozzles rather than regulating its pressure. In this method groups of two, three or more nozzles form a set and each set is controlled by a separate valve.

What are the different methods of governing in steam turbines?

The methods used for governing the steam turbines are: 1. Throttle Governing 2. Nozzle-Control Governing 3. By-Pass Governing’s 4.

What is governing system?

Governing system or governor is the main controller of the hydraulic turbine. The governor varies the water flow through the turbine to control its speed or power output. Generating units speed and system frequency may be adjusted by the governor. Governing system as per IEEE std. -75 includes following.

Where is nozzle governing is used?

Nozzle control governing of steam turbine is basically used for part load condition. Some set of nozzles are grouped together (may be two, three or more groups) and each group of the nozzle is supplied steam controlled by valves. Every valve is closed by the corresponding set of nozzle.

Which is varied in throttle governing in steam engine?

Throttle governing It is the method of controlling the engine output by varying the pressure of the intake stream. The pressure of the intake steam is varied by opening or closing the throttle valve under the control of the centrifugal governor.

Which governor is more sensitive?

Porter governor is more sensitive than watt governor. The proell governor is most sensitive out of these three. This governor was used by James Watt in his steam engine. The spindle is driven by the output shaft of the prime mover.

What is DG governor?

Typically there are three types of governor fitted to modern diesel engines. A major component of a generators diesel engine, they all work in the same way to control the speed – when the engine is running above the set speed, the amount of fuel injected is reduced, slowing the engine.

What is throttle governing in a steam turbine?

Throttle Governing is the most widely used method in steam turbine governing for smaller turbines where the steam flow is less. As the name indicates. in throttle governing the governor throttles the inlet steam flow through the turbine according to the steam turbine steam.

What is nozzle governing control in a turbine?

Nozzle governing control can be only applied to the first stage of a turbine. It is suitable for impulse turbines and larger units which have impulse state followed by an impulse reaction stage. In this there will be a steam pressure drop at first stage outlet to second stage because of the nozzles cut down.

What are the different types of steam turbine governor?

The different types of steam turbine governor of are: 1. Throttle Governing Of Steam Turbine 2. Nozzle Control Governing Of Steam Turbine 3. Bypass Governing Of Steam Turbine 1. Throttle Governing Of Steam Turbine:-

How many nozzle groups are there in a steam turbine?

In this nozzles are grouped in 3 to 5 or more groups and each group of nozzle is supplied steam controlled by valves. The arc of admission is limited to 180º or less. The nozzle controlled governing is restricted to the first stage of the turbine, the nozzle area in other stages remaining constant.
