Can granite be soft?

Granite comes in at a 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale, meaning it is relatively hard. The igneous rock is comprised of mostly quartz and feldspar, along with smaller amounts of various other minerals.

Why is granite so hard?

Why does granite feel rough?

The reason for gritty surfaces on granite kitchen countertops is most likely the fact that they were not correctly or completely finished in the first place. Poor quality granite slabs may have rough patches and simply not feel smooth as glass.
