How are there no clouds on Google Maps?

Google has just rid the earth of clouds. Well, Google Earth, at least*. They’ve just pushed an update to the satellite imagery found in Google Earth and Google Maps, offering a higher-res (and now cloud free) view of the earth than ever before.

Why are there no clouds in Google Earth?

Cloud data may not always be precise and shouldn’t be used for public safety or daily planning. There might be gaps in coverage and irregular shaped clouds. If new data is unavailable, we’ll show the most recent complete data rather than show no clouds. There’s no cloud data near the poles.

What is the satellite view on Google Maps?

Google Maps satellite view is a collection of pictures acquired from different sources. Whenever you are looking at a location on Google Maps, check the footer as pointed in the image below for the sources from where Google has purchased the satellite images for the locations shown in the current view.
