Does the Child Tax Credit count as earned income?

The Child Tax Credit works differently in 2021 and has received an increased amount. The credit will allow 17 year-old dependents to qualify and provide up to $3,000 per qualifying child or $3,600 per qualifying child under age 6. In other words, you do not need to have any earned income to claim the credit.
