Do I have to take the PSAT if Im not going to college?

Not every college requires your SAT scores, but most do. So, while yes, the PSAT is optional and you don’t necessarily have to take the test in order to be a successful student, it is still a good idea to take it. And not only just take it, but study for it as if it matters that you do well, because it does.

Is taking the PSAT mandatory?

Although students are not required to take the PSAT, the exam does help many prepare for the more rigorous SAT. If you want to prepare for the PSAT, there are several free practice tests and reading assessments online.

What happens if you don’t take the Psats?

Nothing. you don’t take the test and you lose your money. Note that you can take the PSAT for practice your sophomore year (the scores don’t count). When you take it your junior year, if your scores are high enough, you can qualify for a National Merit commendation and/or scholarship.

Is the PSAT required in Texas?

Students of all ages may take the PSAT, but only the test taken in their junior year will be counted towards the National Merit Scholarship qualification. Section 29.916 of the Texas Education Code requires that public schools offer the PSAT to homeschool students that live in the district.
