Are bikes more efficient than horses?

A bicycle by quite a bit. A horse will be marginally faster for a short distance, but they have no mechanical advantage. They have to walk slow if ridden for more than half an hour or so. Even an old guy like me can ride all day and average close to 13mph, including stops for water, food and such.

Why don’t they use bicycles in the walking dead?

Bikes would be too easy to find and really low maintenance. Also, on bikes, they could out ride the zombies. With cars, they can run out of gas and we can add some cool scenes with windshield wipers squeaking over zombie guts. Bobby, bikes in The Walking Dead would just work too well.

Bikes scare horses because they aren’t motorized, so horses don’t relate them to quads, motorbikes ect.
