Why you should read it: It’s a quest fantasy, it’s the complex political turmoil of today, it’s both. The trilogy was a huge turning point in the genre, firmly rooted in the quest fantasy of The Lord of the Rings but breaking new ground by adding political turmoil (some diplomacy, civil war) to the mix.
