Why we write dated instead of date?

Originally Answered: Why do we put ‘dated’ instead of ‘date’? Because it refers to a letter which was sent in the past. “I received a letter from you, dated January 1st, 2020 etc., means that whoever wrote the letter, also wrote that day’s date at the top of the the letter, which was January 1st, 2020.

Which is correct date or dated?

You’d use “are dated” if you want to refer to the date on the document, since that’s an unchanging constant (they always had and always will have the date 1932 on them). But if you want to refer to the ACT of putting a date on the piece of paper, you might say “they were dated in 1932”.
