Why should we be proud of our own culture?
It helps us to connect and learn other cultures that we may not be familiar with. We learn to respect each other and it unites people from different backgrounds. If you don’t know your culture and heritage, it means you don’t know where you come from and where you are going. It’s our culture and needs to be respected.
Why is it important to value your culture?
In addition to its intrinsic value, culture provides important social and economic benefits. With improved learning and health, increased tolerance, and opportunities to come together with others, culture enhances our quality of life and increases overall well-being for both individuals and communities.

Beyond resilience, adaptability and having courage to face very difficult times, us Filipinos have shown that we are also most compassionate, selflessly eager and always ready to help anybody in need. This makes me proud to be Filipino.
How does culture affect my way of seeing things and relating with others?
Our culture shapes the way we work and play, and it makes a difference in how we view ourselves and others. It affects our values—what we consider right and wrong. This is how the society we live in influences our choices. But our choices can also influence others and ultimately help shape our society.
It’s the customs, languages and traditions that reflect our past, as well as the shared experiences that help to shape our values and beliefs for today and tomorrow. Culture is important because it fosters a sense of belonging, contributes to quality of life, and helps us relate to each other.
Why is it important to be proud of yourself?

Why is it important to be proud of your heritage?
To be able to teach someone about another place in the world and share the diversity that is your life and your heritage is the best experience for the giver and sometimes even the receiver as well.
What happens if you don’t know your culture and heritage?
If you don’t know your culture and heritage, it means you don’t know where you come from and where you are going. It puts us at risk of having a young generation growing up without an identity. We need to celebrate and practise our heritage and traditions with pride. We need to speak our home languages without fear or favour.
How do you think we grow as a community and country?
I think we grow as a community and a country when we accept and love someone for being different and embrace what they are about because their culture is their life, and sharing it with others opens not only their hearts, but yours too.
