Why is Thor so weak in the first movie?

Thor was weak because Odin took his “godliness” from him, effectively making him mortal. The reason Odin placed the “Worthiness” enchantment on Mjolnir was so that when Thor became worthy again, he could take his power back by picking up the hammer.

Odin rescued his son, and then reacted in fury. He stripped Thor of both his honor and his power, declaring him to be unworthy of his title, unworthy of the loved ones he had betrayed.
