Why is there tension between the English and the French?

The French, British, and Iroquois. Conflicts between the French and the British began to arise after 1664, when the British captured the colony of New Amsterdam from the Dutch. The Dutch struggled to regain control of New Amsterdam, but they were permanently driven from North America by 1675.

We define francophones as those who indicated French as a mother tongue and filled out the NOP questionnaire in French, while anglophones refer to those who indicated English-only as their mother tongue and filled out the questionnaire in English.

The Red River Rebellion, led by Louis Riel, was one of the first major event that created the rift between the French and English Canadians. In 1869, when the Hudson’s Bay Company sold the vast territory known as Rupert’s Land to the Canadian government, the Metis were worried.

Can Quebec understand France?

Quebec French was shown to be at least 93\% intelligible with standard European French. In general, European French speakers have no problems understanding Quebec newscasts or other moderately formal Québécois speech. However, they may have some difficulty understanding informal speech, such as the dialogue in a sitcom.

Is Canada an anglophone country?

According to the 2016 census, almost 20.19 million Canadians, representing 58.1 per cent of the total population, reported English as their mother tongue. Approximately 29.97 million Canadians, or 86.2 per cent of the population, declared being able to speak English….Anglophone.
