Why is oxygen not in the center of n2o?

Nitrogen will form covalent bonds with oxygen to create the simple molecule . Since one nitrogen forms a double covalent bond with one nitrogen. The middle nitrogen also forms a double bond with oxygen. This means oxygen could not be in the center as it only bonds with one Nitrogen.
