Why is my mountain bike creaking when I pedal?

The most common cause of creaking is the crank being loose on the spindle. Remove the crank bolts, lubricate the threads and under the bolt head, and reinstall. Tighten the bolts to the manufacturer recommended torque. Use a torque wrench if possible.

Why is my mountain bike making noise?

RATTLES. Symptoms: A consistent rattle or clicking sound at the front of your bike could be caused by your cables. This is often due to a poor initial setup where excess wire was left at the front end of the bike. During your ride, the cables can click against each other or the frame.

Why do new bikes squeak?

Creaking each time you pedal is often a sign of something being up with your bottom bracket. Annoyingly, this often means disassembling everything for cleaning and regreasing. If the parts are new, this is often enough on its own, although there’s also the possibility of the components being worn out.

Can a bike chain creak?

If your chain is dry, dirty, or rusted, binding can be occurring in the rollers of your chain, causing squeaking or even jumping over the teeth in your cassette and chain rings. If your chain seems to be moving freely, then it could be dirty or seized bearings in your derailleur jockey wheels (or chain guide pulley).

Checking that the pedals are screwed into the crank arm tight, and that there is no obvious play or friction when the pedals are turned by hand are good points to check .

A clicking noise often comes from your chain wanting to jump up or down a gear on the rear cassette. This can typically be fixed by adjusting the tension of the cable that runs from your shifter to your rear derailleur.

Why does my bike make a squeaking noise when sitting?

Squeaking noises are common, do a total overhaul, turn every nut and bolt on the bike, but it could just be the seat post, put some grease on it. Solution: The seat post may be the source of the squeak and greasing it made the noise go away.
