Why is my lumber pink?

Often, if lumber is sold w/o kiln drying it will still have a fairly high moisture content. To prevent molding on the surface of the boards, the lumber will be treated by spraying on a fungicide. You may have seen this effect by the pink coloration.

Why are there pink studs?
