Why is France getting rid of the FAMAS?

In 2017, the French armed forces began the retirement of the FAMAS in favor of the German-made HK 416 rifle. When the Manufacture d’Armes de Saint-Etienne (MAS) factory closed in 2002, no more domestic rifles could be made.
