Why India did not annex Maldives?

Maldives was too far from India and more so from Pakistan, and it was surrounded by an ocean. Also, the cultural heritage was quite different from India.

But atleast Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives most of all Nepal should have been with India due to the shared cultural history. And why not Bhutan and Maldvies. These states proved unviable on their own and anyways India takes care of their defense. Why not just take them in. Neither India or Pakistan were proper countries before independence.

Why did either one India or Pakistan not take Maldives. Pakistan because it was Muslim; India because it had similar Muslim islands in Lakshadweep. Why have such small unfeasible nation in the middle of the seas.

Why did India not take Bhutan or Nepal?

MOST OF ALL I am surprised that India did not take Bhutan (when it took similar places in Sikkim, Darjeeling) which were culturally close. Similarly Nepal when India did not mind taking independent princes like Sikkim, Tripura and even Hyderabad and Junagad.
