Why does raw footage look so bad?

The next reason you don’t want raw footage, is that it’s not color graded. This is due to a specific file format which we shoot in (sLog2) to give the footage the most Dynamic Range and preserve highlights. It looks super drab out of camera and needs to be handled by an experienced editor.

What is an ungraded video?

Ungraded footage is a video file type with total color-grading flexibility. You can take ungraded footage clips that were shot at different times of the day and adjust them to create a unified story.

Should I shoot in clog?

First and foremost is the fact that shooting in log isn’t always necessary. Because log is primarily designed to maximize dynamic range, it makes sense to shoot log in tricky lighting conditions where you expect there to be both extremely bright and dark parts in the image.

Should I shoot 8 bit logs?

Upgrading the bit depth is the best way to capture the highest-quality video, including bumps to dynamic range and color rendering. Before, most video was limited to 8-bit, which is just fine for many things but not ideal if you intend to do professional work or capture footage using a log gamma profile.

How do I fix poor video quality?

  1. Increase Video Resolution. Increasing the resolution of a video, or say, converting SD to HD or HD to UHD, is the most effective way to fix low quality videos.
  2. Increase Bitrate.
  3. Color Grading.
  4. Add a Filter or Apply an Effect.
  5. Stabilize Shaky Videos.
  6. Improve Audio Quality – Denoise Your Footage.

How can I make low quality videos look better?

Here are the important ways to improve Video Quality:

  1. Use upscale resolution of the video.
  2. Adjust frame rate, codec, aspect ratio, and bitrate.
  3. Remove or reduce noise.
  4. You have to fix shaky videos.
  5. Optimize contrast, brightness, and saturation.
  6. Rotate, crop, and flip clips.

What is slog2 and slog3?

S-Log is a gamma curve with a wide dynamic range optimized under the assumption that grading will be performed in the post-production process. S-Log3 allows for better reproduction of gradation characteristics in shadows and the mid-tone range than S-Log2. It has characteristics closer to those of scanned film.

Why is the CCTV footage from security cameras grainy and grainy?

The CCTV footage from security cameras appears to be grainy and of low-quality because of the file resolution and compression, the manner in which it was recorded, and the cropping that usually occurs on such video files, among others.

Why are some CCTV cameras not as good as others?

Some cheaper cameras are not as effective in poor weather conditions, and will therefore require regular cleaning or replacement. Spiderwebs and dirty lenses may seem like rudimentary problems for such a high-tech surveillance network, but they are still potential causes of poor-quality footage.

How do security cameras take pictures in the dark?

A normal camera would struggle to get anything close to a good picture in such conditions, but many security cameras feature IR (infrared) technology that can “illuminate” a dark area and still generate a good image. When you hold up your smartphone to take a picture and then spread two fingers to get closer, this is an example of a digital zoom.
