Why does my nether portal keep taking me to the same place?

probably because your overworld portal and nether portal have the wrong cords, because for one block in the nether you go 8 in the overworld so look at your cords in the nether and line them up with the overworld cords of your overworld portal and it should work if you are playing java or bedrock.

What do you do if the nether portal doesn’t work?

  1. Find a ruined portal in the nether.
  2. Fix the ruined portal by fixing the portal frame and removing the crying obsidian and replacing the gaps with obsidian.

Since there is a chance the x=12, y=60, z=25 will be obstructed, the game will search for an open space in that +/-128 blocks square. If such space is found nearby, all will be good, the new portal will lead back to the same one in the overworld.
