Why does moon look black?

A phenomenon called Rayleigh’s Scattering causes light to scatter when it passes through particles that have a diameter one-tenth that of the wavelength (colour) of light. However, the moon does not have an atmosphere, so light is not scattered, and the sky appears black.

What color is moon black?

The dark regions you see on the Moon are called lunar maria, and they were formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. They’re less reflective than the lunar highlands, and so they appear darker to the eye. The maria cover about 16\% of the lunar surface, mostly on the side we can see from Earth.
