Why does glass heat up?

Outside the glass there can be heavy ceramic + plastic layer who are bad conductors of heat. Therefore when you are using glass+ceramic/plastic they are working as an insulator from the point of radiation and conduction respectively. Insulation does not only mean killing the conduction heat transfer.
