Why does all foundation look bad on my skin?

Uneven skin texture can come in many forms, from under-the-skin bumps, to large, visible pores, or fine lines and wrinkles, all of which can contribute to foundation not sitting smoothly on the skin. Don’t feel the need to smother your whole face in the stuff though, simply apply to any problem areas before foundation.

Why does foundation sink into my skin?

Should foundation cover your whole face?

Place a dime-sized amount of foundation in your palm and dot the foundation using your tool of choice on any red spots or uneven areas of your skin. Why does my foundation not blend into my skin?

Liquid foundation is just that: a liquid. Aka it takes a little time to completely dry once you’ve applied it. This means if you speed through your beauty routine and dust a powder product over it immediately, it’s going to heavily absorb into the first spot you applied it and it won’t blend out properly.

What is the best way to apply foundation on mature skin?

When it comes to actually applying the foundation, focus on the middle of your face first, tackling any niggling issues before moving outwards. “Start with areas of concern first, under eyes and cheeks for any redness, then slowly blend out if necessary. The whole face doesn’t need the same coverage,” he said.

Whether you’re using a foundation brush (synthetic bristles are best) or your fingertips, apply foundation in a stippling motion, which means gently tapping it into your skin. Avoid any wiping or rubbing motions because that will only push the foundation around and cause streaks.

Why is my foundation settling into my pores?

Moisturizer helps smoothing the skin’s surface for a smooth makeup application. Applying foundation on dry skin can cause the makeup to settle into the pores or even into any fine lines or wrinkles. For dry skin, avoid moisturizers with alcohol which can be extremely drying.
