Why do Supercars have flames?

The flames are caused by unburned fuel in the exhaust, which usually requires a large engine (8 cylinders above) running at high revs. However, the catalytic converter in modern cars will convert most of the unburned fuel before it leaves the exhaust.

Why do Supercars burst into flames?

Driver is bouncing off the rev limiter for extended periods. This results in unburnt fuel entering the exhaust which lead to epic 3ft long flames… fender on fire. Parking a car with red hot brake rotors onto which rubber shavings may fall and catch on fire (this is why you do a cool down lap at the track)

The intense heat of the gases, and the pressure that it creates, especially when the engine is revved, causes those vapours to combust. This combustion gets forced out of the exhaust pipe, and causes the flames to shoot out.
