Why do stocks go on F&O ban?

When the open interest—open positions or trades that are yet to be settled—in a security exceeds 95 percent of the market wide position limit (MWPL). How is MWPL calculated? If the open positions—futures and options contracts combined—exceed 114 shares, the security will be put in the ban list.

What happens in case of F&O ban?

When the stock F&O contracts are in the ban period, no fresh positions are allowed for any of the futures and options contracts in that stock.
