Why do people use donkeys instead of horses?

Donkeys are not as skittish as horses are and tend to be more reliable around the loud noises caused by battles. They also tend to avoid dangers around them better than horses, and will make decisions based on keeping their own selves safe.

Are mules better for riding than horses?

Mules are often considered superior to horses when it comes to trail riding—there’s nothing better for riding in the steep mountains. Even though I personally feel donkeys are less maintenance than horses (and lots of other animals), their hooves can be a bit of a hot topic. Even though they’re smaller, tougher and a bit more bendier than a horses hoof, they still need regular trimming and care.

There are often problems at driving events (where there are donkey classes), with horses taking a strong dislike to donkeys. If you take the opportunity to desensitise, you’re doing your horse a favour.
