Why do parents protect their child?

Parents love and care about their children, and want to raise them to be healthy, happy, and successful. They want to protect their kids’ wellbeing by preventing illnesses, hurtful feelings, and failure.

How do you recognize incest?

Effects of emotional incest.

  1. Difficulty maintaining healthy long-term intimacy.
  2. Deep shame and pervasive feelings of inadequacy.
  3. Codependency.
  4. Dissociation.
  5. Difficulties with self-care (emotional and/or physical)
  6. Love/hate relationships, especially with the offending parent but also with others.

How do overprotective parents treat their children?

By showering their child with attention and love (although that’s not always the case for overprotective parents, since many of them may be rather strict than affectionate), and keeping them safe from harm, these parents hope to show their children just how precious and valuable they are.

Parents try to impose sameness on their children because they can’t live on through their children if the children are different from them. For example, if you are religious and your child is a non-believer; or if you are a Democrat and your child is a Republican, your child no longer serves that necessary function.

Why do parents distance themselves from their children?

If the parents were hurt in their developmental years, they will have problems accepting love and intimacy from their children. Faced with the emotional pain that it causes them, parents will unconsciously distance themselves from their child. 4. Parents have unresolved trauma in their own lives.

Is there a good reason for failing to protect a vulnerable child?

When you’re the one who has been hurt in this way (or someone who cares about a child who has), it’s hard to imagine that there can be any “good reason” for failing to protect a vulnerable child. You may feel doubly betrayed by someone’s failure to help. You were in danger, someone could have protected you and chose not to…period.
