Why do multiple ammeters show the same reading?

In order for an ammeter to measure a device’s current, it must be connected in series to that device. All of the current in this circuit flows through the meter. The ammeter would have the same reading if located between points d and e or between points f and a, as it does in the position shown.

What happens if you connect an ammeter in series?

Ammeter will burn as its internal resistance is low and connecting it across the source will cause high current to flow through the meter. Voltmeter if connected in series will lower the circuit current to almost zero as its internal resistance is high.

How do you connect an ammeter in a circuit?

An ammeter is placed in series in the branch of the circuit being measured, so that its resistance adds to that branch. Normally, the ammeter’s resistance is very small compared with the resistances of the devices in the circuit, and so the extra resistance is negligible.

Why are ammeters not connected in parallel?

An ammeter is a device which measures the amount of current flowing in a circuit. It is a very low resistance(nearly zero) device. If it will be connected in parallel, it would draw most of the current and would get damaged. It is a very high resistance(nearly infinite) device.

How are clamp on ammeters used?

Clamp-on ammeter or simply ‘clamp meter’ is an instrument that is used to measure the current flowing through a conductor. An AC Clamp meter basically consists of a current transformer in its jaws, bar CT usually. Utilizing the principle of current transformer, the reading will be displayed.

Is an ammeter connected in series or parallel in a circuit why Class 12?

Ampere is the unit of current so an ammeter is a meter or an instrument which measures electric current in a circuit. So due to this reason, the ammeter must be connected in series in a circuit. An ammeter is always connected in series in a circuit because its resistance is very low.
