Why do engineers have low salary?

Financial sector, trade, hotels and restaurants do not require engineers. Requirement in health, education, agriculture is almost negligible*. *So the demand is less while the supply is high. * Over and above this, skill level of an average engineer is poor.

If we don’t do it ourselves the work does not get done. This results in is doing a lot of unpaid overtime if we want our projects to succeed. If the hiring manager is not an engineer they often select the cheaper old timer without a degree over the younger degreed engineer. This depresses starting salaries and further cheapens our brand.

Do engineers get overpaid?

The real overpaid people are the ones pocketing the profits. Engineers are under paid in general. The proof is that they do not generally rate a secretary, private office, in some places they are required to empty their waste baskets and sweep their floor. You are not overpaid if any of this applies to you.
