Why do Brits say SAT instead of sitting?

Just because it’s ungrammatical in one dialect doesn’t make it ungrammatical in all dialects. They say it because they don’t know any better…….. what is correct is “I was sitting….” No, it is not ungrammatical.

Can you say we were SAT?

It is just fine to say, “We were sat at the table in the restaurant” — but only if the waiter walked you over to the table, and indicated that you should sit there. These are both completed actions, in the past tense.

It is a written paper-pencil test and helps evaluate the language and mathematical reasoning skills of the applicants.

Is Sitted correct English?

No. ‘Sitted’ is always incorrect in English and ‘to sit’ is quite a funny verb anyway. But you can also say ‘I was seated’ to indicate the position you were in rather than the action if that’s what you mean. You will hear people say things like ‘I’ve been sat here for an hour’.

Why can’t we use ‘he sat’ instead of ‘he was sat’?

Because it is incorrect: it is dialect, not Standard English. “Sat” is the past tense: “he sat” or past participle: “he was sat (upon) by (someone). The imperfect tense is “he was sitting/seated”. You cannot change “he was laughing” to “he was laughed” either.

In recent years, some colleges have begun to waive the TOEFL/IELTS requirement if you got a certain score on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) section of the SAT or the English and Reading sections of the ACT.

Is the act or the SAT better for international students?

While the SAT has generally been more popular than the ACT for international students, it might not be the better option for you if you’re strong in math and science. The ACT, unlike the SAT, has a science section, plus it tests more advanced math concepts.
