Why do British say O instead of zero?

The Oxford English Dictionary says: O n. (also oh) zero (in a sequence of numerals, especially when spoken). Zero is a little bit longer to pronounce, hence the “oh”.

The correct answers are:

  1. 1900—nineteen hundred.
  2. 1902—nineteen oh two.
  3. 1980—nineteen eighty.
  4. 2001—two thousand and one.
  5. 2010—two thousand and ten/twenty ten.

How do you say 0000 in English?

I’d say: “Zero, zero, zero, zero. That’s four number zeroes.”…

  1. It avoids the need for the recipient to count.
  2. It avoids the need for additional words such as “four”, that might be mistaken for additional digits.
  3. The word “quadruple” is unlikely to be confused with anything else.

It’s common colloquial slang to say Oh for zero and hundred for zero zero. (Instead of two point zero at time two one zero zero). It’s not “correct”, but people that use it understand each other.

What is the difference between the 1900s and the twelve hundreds?

Despite its sudden drop, the term 1900s picked up and enjoyed a continuous surge until the year 2000. At least here in America it is clear to me that “the twelve hundreds” means 1200 to 1299. And similarly up to the 1800s. If “the nineteen hundreds” is not clearly used in this way yet, it probably will be in the far future.

Why do some people pronounce zero as two point zero?

Depends on your habit people like some people have the habit to pronounce 0 between two numbers as ‘not’ Just like that some people pronounce 2.0 as two point O but some pronounce it as two point zero It’s common colloquial slang to say Oh for zero and hundred for zero zero. (Instead of two point zero at time two one zero zero).

Is it correct to say 1900-1999 or 1920s?

Although people do use it mean 1900–1909, it isn’t a misuse to use it to mean 1900–1999. Another way to refer to the first decade would be “just after the turn of the century”, or “at the turn of the century”. I would say 1920s to mean 1920–1929 though.
