Why do black holes absorb light?

So at the event horizon, which is most commonly called the point of no-return, this spacetime deformation becomes so strong that there are no paths leading away from the blackhole. So, black holes absorb light because of their mass which in turn determines it’s gravitational pull.

How does a black hole form from a massive star?

A black hole can be formed by the death of a massive star. When such a star has exhausted the internal thermonuclear fuels in its core at the end of its life, the core becomes unstable and gravitationally collapses inward upon itself, and the star’s outer layers are blown away.

Why do photons have zero mass?

Why do photons have no mass? In short, the special theory of relativity predicts that photons do not have mass simply because they travel at the speed of light. This is also backed up by the theory of quantum electrodynamics, which predicts that photons cannot have mass as a result of U(1) -gauge symmetry.

Why photon is massless particle?

If there was a way (there isn’t; special relativity prohibits it) to observe a photon at rest, you would find it massless. All the relativistic mass of the photon comes from it’s energy. In particle physics when we say mass, we usually refer to the rest mass. This is why we usually say that photons are massless.

Why does light have mass?

Light is composed of photons, which have no mass, so therefore light has no mass and can’t weigh anything. But because of Einstein’s theory (and the fact that lightbehaves like it has mass, in that it’s subject to gravity), we can say that mass and energy exist together.

Is photons really massless?

Photons are indeed massless and thus have zero rest energy. This is not an issue because according to special relativity, they do not come with a rest frame. In principle, you could think of three types of particles, depending on the relative values of energy and momentum: E2=p2: massless particles (eg photons), v=c.
