Why did Newt want Thomas to kill him?
He said he didn’t want to end up losing his sanity and eat people. He told Thomas how he got his limp, jumping off a Maze wall. He tells Thomas that it was all his fault that Newt tried to kill himself and asks him to kill him to make up for all the pain he caused Newt.

In The Fever Code, Newt is sent back to WICKED’s headquarters to make sure that he didn’t catch the virus through the air. As you see later in the books, he is fine. In The Maze Runner, Newt doesn’t have any direct contact with the outside world, so he never would’ve encountered any Cranks, meaning that the air would not have been contaminated.
