Why balanced Draught is preferred over forced or induced Draught?

The balanced draught is a combination of forced and induced draught. The forced draught overcomes the resistance of the fuel bed there fore sufficient air is supplied to the fuel bed for proper and complete combustion.

The draught is one of the most essential systems of the thermal power plant which support the required quantity of air for combustion and removes the burnt products from the system.

What is the function of balance Draught in steam power plant?

Draught is necessary to overcome the resistance to the flow of air and combustion gases and this resistance is contributed by ducts, chimney, fuel beds, boiler gas passages, baffles, dampers, air preheaters, economisers, deposits of soot and dust in gas passages and the required rate of combustion.

What is balanced draft?

In order to meet higher pressure differentials, the stacks must simultaneously operate with draft fans. Balanced draft: When the static pressure is equal to the atmospheric pressure, the system is referred to as balanced draft. Draft is said to be zero in this system.

Balanced Draft Furnaces equipped with both an FD (Forced Draft) and ID (Induced Draft) fans are called balanced draft systems; see Figure 1. In balanced draft systems, the forced and induced draft fans work together to move combustion air and flue gases through the furnace.
