Which valve is used in suction line of centrifugal pump?
foot valve
The foot valve is a lift check valve which is usually installed together with suction strainers in the suction line. It prevents the suction line from running empty after the pump is stopped (also see Valve).
What type of valve is a discharge valve?
Discharge Valves are devices that make it possible to monitor and control the flow of a substance from a source and through some type of circulation system.
Which valve is used in pump?
A pumping system typically requires three valves: an inlet (suction) shut-off valve, an outlet (discharge) shut-off valve, and a check valve between the pump discharge nozzle and the discharge shut-off valve to avoid reverse flow and protect the pump from backpressure.
What is suction line and discharge line?
The suction line connects the evaporator to the compressor, the discharge line connects the compressor to the condenser, and the liquid line connects the condenser to the expansion device. The expansion device is typically located at the end of the liquid line, at the inlet to the evaporator.
What is a discharge line?
A discharge line is a section of piping where the pressure is higher than atmospheric pressure (e. g. Pump system).
Where is the discharge valve located?
As seen in the illustration, the suction valve opens because of the suction pressure created as the piston travels down into its cylinder. It’s located and opens into the cylinder side of the valve reed plates. The discharge valve is located on the other side of the plate and opens when the piston travels upward.
How does a discharge valve work?
The discharge valves (dump gates) on tanks should be large, non-plugging, and quick opening and closing. The settled solids slide down the slope to the valve when it is opened. The valve is closed when drilling fluid begins to flow through the valve.
What valves are in veins?
One-Way Valves in the Veins One-way valves consist of two flaps (cusps or leaflets) with edges that meet. These valves help veins return blood to the heart. As blood moves toward the heart, it pushes the cusps open like a pair of one-way swinging doors (shown on the left).
Why is it called foot valve?
A foot valve is a type of check valve that is typically installed at a pump or at the bottom of a pipe line (hence the name). These special valves allow the pump to stay primed, letting liquid to flow in, but keeping it from flowing back out.
Why does the centrifugal pump start with discharge valve?
Why centrifugal pump started with closed Discharge valve When we start the pump with an open discharge valve, the discharge head will act on the pump, i.e. more resistance, so that the motor has to give more starting torque to the pump, which means more current is drawn by the motor.
What is the purpose of the discharge valve in a pump?
Discharge Valve: Allows liquid to flow from the pump to other parts of the system. Check or Non-Return Valve: In the discharge line -Prevents back-flow from discharge to suction through the pump. Vent (priming) Valve: This is used to vent off air/gases from the pump before start-up.
How do you control the flow of a centrifugal pump?
If you need to control the flow, use a valve on the discharge side of the pump, never use a valve on the suction side for this purpose. This is an excellent treatment of the types of control systems for a centrifugal pump by Walter Driedger.
What type of valves should be used at the pump suction?
Gate valves at the pump suction and discharge should be used as these offer no resistance to flow and can provide a tight shut-off. Butterfly valves are often used but they do provide some resistance and their presence in the flow stream can potentially be a source of hang-ups which would be critical at the suction.
What is the purpose of a foot valve on a pump?
The foot valve is operational all the time. It has nothing to do with maintenance. It serves the needed purpose of keeping a vertical pump’s suction always primed -i.e., always flooded or filled with liquid. Otherwise, as I’m sure you’ll understand, the pump couldn’t start up pumping liquid.
