Which technology is used in Indian Railways for train lighting?

The Central Railway may soon adopt a modern technology called light detection and ranging (LIDAR) technology in order to detect track fractures and faults at the click of a button. The LIDAR technology will capture fractures as well as missing keys of the section.

What technology do trains use?

Today’s trains are powered by 200-ton locomotives equipped with supercomputers capable of processing a billion data points per second. Technology used throughout the nearly 140,000-mile rail network — from smart sensors to big data and drones — ensure infrastructure and equipment remains safe.

What is hog system?

Indian Railways has adopted an energy-efficient power supply system for coaches called Head On Generation (HOG) system wherein power supply is drawn from Over Head Equipment (OHE) through converters provided in electric locomotive (WAP-7/WAP-5) for coach AC, lighting, fans etc.

What is EOG in train?

End on Generation (EOG) is the system used on fully air conditioned Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. The system comprises two power cars per train. These are mounted inside the power car or the entire power car coach which is dedicated for these power plants.

HoG is a clean technology that taps power supply overhead power lines and distributes it to train coaches. At present the Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains run on end on generation (EoG) system in which train coaches receive power from diesel-fueled power cars for lighting and air-conditioning.
