When you can say the speed and velocity of an object is same?

Posted on September 15, 2022 by Author

When you can say the speed and velocity of an object is same?

The reason is simple. Speed is the time rate at which an object is moving along a path, while velocity is the rate and direction of an object’s movement.

Can speed and velocity be equal yes or no?

Average speed does not have to equal the magnitude of the average velocity. People may think that average speed and average velocity are just different names for the same quantity, but average speed depends on distance and average velocity depends on displacement.

What must be true for velocity to be the same as speed?

Objects have the same velocity only if they are moving at the same speed and in the same direction. The average velocity of an object moving in a constant direction is calculated with the formula: velocity=distancetime.

At what times are the velocities equal?

It is always equal at the end of a displacement.

In what two cases the speed and velocity of an object becomes same?

Answer: speed is equal to velocity when the body goes in definite direction.

How are speed and velocity similar from each other?

Similarities between speed and velocity Both are physical quantities, so both can be measured and quantified. Both the terms (speed and velocity) are associated with moving body only; not with static body. Both have same unit of measurement—m/s in SI and cm/s in CGS.

Why speed and velocity has same unit?

Speed and velocity have the same unit yet they are different physical identities because speed is a scalar quantity whereas velocity is a vector quantity. Speed has no direction, only magnitude whereas velocity has both magnitude as well as direction. That’s why there can be a difference in their values.

What is velocity and why is different from speed even though the same formula is used to calculate them both?

Speed is defined as the rate of change in distance with respect to time. Velocity is defined as the rate of change in displacement with respect to time. Notice the words distance and displacement are the only difference between the two definitions.

When can we be certain that the average velocity of an object is always equal to its instantaneous velocity?

It can only equal the average velocity when the velocity is constant.
