When holding the bow Why do you not want to grip the bow so tightly?
When you release the arrow, the tension in the bow vanishes and the bow aligns itself in whatever direction the position of your hand suggests. If these two directions aren’t exactly the same, the bow will rotate slightly and give the arrow a kick to the side. The bow hand shouldn’t ‘grip’ the bow but hold it in place.
Can you use a bow sideways?
The front (bow) hand holds the bow. The bow may be helt vertically, canted (in the 90 degrees range), or horizontally. You usually shoot from a bow held vertically, or a bit slanted (say maximally 45 degrees). It is possible to shoot from horizontal or almost horizontal bow, but it has its disadvantages.
Should I wrap my bow grip?
For me, nothing is more important than my grip, and I’ve found that placing a custom wrap on my bow’s grip improves overall feel and function. An improved overall feel means increased consistency when it comes to gripping the bow exactly the same way each and every time. Increased consistency means boosted accuracy.
What side of the bow do you put the arrow on?
The arrow is normally placed on the left side of the bow for right handed archers and on the right side for left handed archers. The modern thought on the draw is to keep effort in the hand at a minimum. The only work the hand has to do is the effort required to keep the bowstring on the fingers.

Point the bow at the target, double-check that your bow grip is loose, and pull the string back smoothly to your face. Do not dip the bow or point it in the air as you draw. Do not push the bow ahead as you draw the string back. Extend the bow fully, and then pull the string straight back.
How do I strengthen my bow arm?
With your free hand, grab a dumbbell and hold it with your arm extended. Pull the dumbbell up to your ribs while maintaining good postural alignment. Lower the dumbbell until your arm is fully extended. Repeat for 8-12 reps, repeat with the other arm.
Should you hold a bow horizontally?
With the bow that can be drawn to a full draw, you often hold the bow horizontally only when nocking the arrow, or when waiting with arrow nocked but string undrawn. During the shot itself you usually cant the bow nearer to the vertical position.
