Whats the difference between a float and a double?

Decimal vs Double vs Float Precision is the main difference where float is a single precision (32 bit) floating point data type, double is a double precision (64 bit) floating point data type and decimal is a 128-bit floating point data type.

Is float equal to double in C?

Why do we use double and float in C?

Double is more precise than float and can store 64 bits, double of the number of bits float can store. Double is more precise and for storing large numbers, we prefer double over float. Unless we do need precision up to 15 or 16 decimal points, we can stick to float in most applications, as double is more expensive.
