Quakers have been a significant part of the movements for the abolition of slavery, to promote equal rights for women, and peace. They have also promoted education and the humane treatment of prisoners and the mentally ill, through the founding or reforming of various institutions.

Do Quakers believe original sin?
Quakers do not accept the idea of original sin, as they do not believe in a judgmental or personal God. Friends do not baptize.
Do Quakers wear crosses?
Fighting Quaker is an odd term, as Quakers are probably best known for being religious pacifists. The Religious Society of Friends believes that there is a part of God in all of us. For instance, Quakers don’t have symbols. In a Quaker church (called a Meeting House) there are no crosses, stained glass or fish.
Do Quakers smoke or drink?
Alcohol and tobacco Quakers are not forbidden from using alcohol or tobacco (although these substances are banned from Quaker Meeting Houses), but most Quakers avoid them, or consume them moderately. Many Quakers took an active role in the Temperance Movement of Victorian times.
Do Quakers eat meat?
What about people food? As a rule, any wholesome, nutritious food that you and your family eat, your bird can also eat, but in very small quantities. Follow the general guidelines discussed above. Occasionally, some birds enjoy a very small amount of lean cooked meat, fish, egg or cheese.
