What to do immediately if snake bites?

If you suspect a snake bite:

  1. Immediately move away from the area where the bite occurred.
  2. Remove anything tight from around the bitten part of the body (e.g.: rings, anklets, bracelets) as these can cause harm if swelling occurs.
  3. Reassure the victim.
  4. Immobilize the person completely.

Can you put peroxide on a snake bite?

Wash the area with clean water 2 times a day. Don’t use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, which can slow healing. You may cover the bite with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and a non-stick bandage. Apply more petroleum jelly and replace the bandage as needed.

Does vinegar help snake bite?

Vinegar is NOT recommended. Remove any tentacles with tweezers or fingers. Do NOT rub the area. Immerse the affected area in hot water (no hotter than the rescuer can comfortably tolerate) for 20 minutes to relieve pain.

Venomous snakes have distinct heads. While non-venomous snakes have a rounded head, venomous snakes have a more triangular-shaped head. The shape of a venomous snake’s head may deter predators. However, some non-venomous snakes can mimic the triangular shape of non-venomous snakes by flattening their heads.
