What PSU should be privatized?

Four more PSUs BPCL, SCI, BEML, NINL will be privatised by Q4 along with LIC IPO: DIPAM Secy. Indian government expects to list state-owned Life Insurance Corp by the end of the current fiscal. DIPAM secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey said, “We intend to do privatisation of BPCL, BEML, SCI, Neelanchal Ispat this year.

Which PSU banks will not be privatised?

Also, State Bank of India is not being privatised. This leaves room open for only six banks – UCO, IOB, Central Bank, Bank of Maharastra, Punjab and Sind Bank, and Bank of India for privatisation.

Is privatisation bad Quora?

Privatization is good in overall development of the country. Otherwise Government should run the organisation efficiently. As we all know, Government will have different politicians to rule every five years and understanding the basic needs of any Government sector will takes time.

The case for privatisation is trickier, given that we have had a grand total of 13 PSUs (plus, a few hotel properties) that have been priviatised since the onset of the 1991 reforms.

Further the temptation to privatise did not stop with PSUs. Contrary to the accepted rationale of privatisation, we have seen the government withdrawing from health and education sectors, leaving the citizen with almost no choice but to seek costly education and unaffordable healthcare offered by the private sector.

Should PSU sectors be opened to private sector participation?

Yes ,it is true that many sectors could be opened for private participation. In the past some sectors like airlines, telecom has been opened to private sectors and has done reasonably well. Customers are indeed benefited. But , I also believe that well performing sectors specially those dominated by PSU should not be tampered with .

What should be the policy and yardstick for PSU privatisation?

The country needs to know the policy and yardstick for PSU privatisation. Driving every public sector employee into the precipice of uncertainty cannot beget the best outcomes. The short-term and long-term plan of disinvestment of PSUs, created by exchequers’ money, need to be shared with the nation.
