What kind of drug is Zantac?

Ranitidine (also known by its brand name, Zantac, which is sold by the drug company Sanofi) is available both over the counter (OTC) and by prescription. It belongs to the class of drugs known as H2 (or histamine-2) blockers. OTC ranitidine is commonly used to relieve and prevent heartburn.

Is Zantac a narcotic?

Zantac is used in the treatment of gerd; duodenal ulcer; erosive esophagitis; duodenal ulcer prophylaxis; indigestion and belongs to the drug class H2 antagonists. There is no proven risk in humans during pregnancy. Zantac 150 MG is not a controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).

Is Zantac a painkiller?

It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. It relieves symptoms such as cough that doesn’t go away, stomach pain, heartburn, and difficulty swallowing. Ranitidine belongs to a class of drugs known as H2 blockers. This medication is also available without a prescription.

What is Zantac made of?

Each ZANTAC 150 Tablet for oral administration contains 168 mg of ranitidine HCl equivalent to 150 mg of ranitidine. Each tablet also contains the inactive ingredients FD&C Yellow No. 6 Aluminum Lake, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, titanium dioxide, triacetin, and yellow iron oxide.

Do Zantac make you sleepy?

Ranitidine oral tablet may cause drowsiness as well as other side effects.

Is the new Zantac safe?

As far as we know, yes, the “new” Zantac (called Zantac 360) is safe. The new version of Zantac contains the active ingredient famotidine, which is marketed as a safe alternative to ranitidine, which was included in now-recalled original Zantac medications.
