What is the difference between testing web application and desktop application?

Desktop Applications are platform-dependent and are confined to the machine that they are deployed on. Web Application testing is performed with the application deployed on a server which can be accessed by other computers with just a browser. Separate desktop applications need to be developed for different platforms.

What is the difference when you test an app on desktop and a mobile?

The type of application being tested: The application under test will perform and might look differently depending on the platform used to test it. For instance, in desktop platforms, the application will always be a web application while in mobile platforms the application can be a web, native or hybrid application.

Desktop is a Selenium Remote WebDriver implementation for the automated testing of Windows applications based on WinForms and WPF platforms. You have Selenium WebDriver for testing web apps, and Appium for testing iOS and Android apps. And now you have Selenium-based tools for testing Windows apps as well.

Why do you think or not that testing mobile applications is more challenging than desktop or web apps?

It is quite complex and complicated to test mobile apps because of different mobile devices having different and greater number of functionalities. It is easy and simple to test web applications because of functionality of desktop.

Functional testing of a system application, for example, a company’s network is different from testing a mobile application with thousands, if not millions, of users. One of the most obvious differences is that mobile apps are designed for more users, more diverse devices than web apps.

How mobile testing is different from web testing?

Web app testing aims to ensure that websites deliver a highly functional, bug-free experience across browsers and devices. On the other hand, mobile app testing aims to identify any compatibility issues or bugs for the native or hybrid mobile app across a wide range of Android and iOS devices.
