What is the cruising speed of a fighter jet?

Jet aircraft generally cruise most efficiently at about Mach 0.8 (981 km/h (610 mph)) and at altitudes around 10,000–15,000 m (33,000–49,000 ft) or more. The idea of the jet engine was not new, but the technical problems involved could not begin to be solved until the 1930s.

Why is there no movement at cruising speed on a plane?

Short answer: Because we’re moving at the same velocity as the Earth, in the same way that passengers inside an airplane don’t feel movement because they’re moving with the same velocity as the plane. People on a smooth flight don’t feel the plane’s movement.

Do planes fly at their top speed?

The answer is around 500 mph in still air. Jets often cruise near their maximum speed; in those cases they cannot speed up without exceeding limitations. Exceeding a limitation is unsafe and is contrary to the regulations.

Why do planes seem to fly slow?

It’s called Parallax. When you see a plane high in the sky. It seems to move slow because it is so far away. That same plane flying at the exact same speed at treetop height would blow right past you at a high rate of speed.

Why do planes not fly faster?

Airplanes don’t fly faster because they burn more fuel at higher speeds, meaning that it isn’t economical. In addition, operating at higher speeds puts more stress on the engines as well as the airplane fuselage, which causes them to wear down faster.

How do fighter jets slow down?

The primary (and most effective) method to slow the jet down is aerobraking. In the T-38 at ~130 knots full aft stick is applied at a rate that prevents the jet from becoming airborne again. The stick will be back towards the seat pan. Fly the nosewheel down to the runway at ~100 knots and apply wheel brakes.
