What is reversible heat transfer?

Reversible heat flow is the process of transferring heat infinitesimally slowly in such a way that no heat is lost, i.e. it is the MAXIMUM heat flow that can occur.

In which reversible process the heat is fully converted into work?

isothermal expansion
In case of an ideal process, heat can be completely converted into work, e.g., isothermal expansion of an ideal gas in a piston–cylinder arrangement.) The phenomenon of maximized work and minimized heat can be visualized on a pressure–volume diagram as the area beneath the equilibrium curve, representing work done.

What is reversible heat engine?

Answer. The engine, in which the process can be retraced at any stage of its operation by reversing the boundary conditions, is called a reversible heat engine. Its efficiency is maximum, as no dissipation of energy takes place against friction, etc in such a heat engine.

Why it is not possible to reach absolute zero even if one could make a reversible heat engine?

Nothing can be as cold as or colder than absolute zero of temperature because Efficiency of Carnot heat engine cannot be equal to one! Kelvin scale of temperature came into being based on the consideration of efficiency of Carnot heat engine and the combination of Carnot heat engines.

Is reversible heat transfer possible?

There is no such thing as reversible heat in thermodynamics, though there is a process called reversible heat transfer. This process involves transfer of thermal energy from one system to another along a reversible path.

Can heat transfer be reversible?

If heat transfer is due to infinitely small amount of temperature difference, the process can be reversed without refrigeration process and keeping the surrounding intact.

What is reversible work?

The reversible work Wrev is defined as the maximum amount of useful work output or the minimum work input for a system undergoing a process between the specified initial and final states in a totally reversible manner.

Is reversible heat engine possible?

This cycle is still known as Carnot’s cycle, but because it is defined to be a reversible cycle, no heat engine can ever be made to operate using it.

How does heat engine different from a reversible heat engine?

Heat energy is taken out of the cold reservoir since the reversible heat engine takes out slightly more than the super heat engine puts in and it shows up as extra work. This taking heat from a single reservoir and turning it to work with no other changes is a contradiction to the Carnot assumption.

Reversible heat transfer will only be possible if the temperature difference between system and surrounding would be infinitesimal.

What is reversible heat in thermodynamics?

There is no such thing as reversible heat in thermodynamics, though there is a process called reversible heat transfer. This process involves transfer of thermal energy from one system to another along a reversible path. For a reversible process of heat transfer to occur,…

What is the process of heat transfer?

This process involves transfer of thermal energy from one system to another along a reversible path. For a reversible process of heat transfer to occur, an infinitesimal temperature gradient between the system and the surrounding is required to be maintained throughout the process. What is meant by a reversible process?

Thus, a reversible process can be viewed as imposing a continuous sequence of thermodynamic equilibrium states. It is reversible in the first case because it satisfies the reversibility definition. A thermodynamic process is called reversible if an infinitesimal change of the external condition reverses the process.
