What is reverse camber good for?
Reverse camber boards are often recommended for beginner riders because they have good turn initiation and with raised tips, they are less likely to catch an edge. Reverse camber boards are also good for riding rails and floating through deep, fresh powder.
What is Rocker Camber good for?
Skis and snowboards with camber have midsections that arch off the snow slightly when unweighted, while skis and snowboards with rocker have midsections that rest on the snow and tips and tails that curve up. Benefits of camber: Camber provides springiness and good edge control while carving turns on hard snow.
What is a rocker camber rocker snowboard?
A “rocker” or reverse-camber board or ski is the opposite of traditional camber. Rather than curving up, the board or ski curves down, so the middle is the low point of the curve. The center of the board is the only contact point, which makes it easier to pivot and makes you less likely to catch an edge.
Is rocker camber rocker good for beginners?
In my opinion, the Traditional Camber and Completely Flat profiles should be completely avoided. The Continuous Rocker has been often recommended to beginners (but that was before the hybrid profiles really emerged).
Is camber or rocker better for all mountain?
Either Camber dominate with Camber between foot, or Rocker dominant with Rocker between foot. Hybrid shapes are our favorites style of snowboards for an All Mountain Style of riding, Caber dominate hybrids will have a great amount of control on groomers while maintain a large amount of float on fresh and deep snow.
What is a flat out camber snowboard?
A flat camber profile, as the name indicates, makes a snowboard lie flat on the surface. A board having this profile is flat. Excluding the tip and tail, the edges and base lie even and completely touch the snow. There is no curvature or bend from tip to tail. Just think of it as an even and stable surface.
What is a hybrid camber snowboard?
Hybrid camber includes elements of both rocker and traditional camber. The snowboard or ski will curve in different directions in different sections, resulting in a kinked curve. Camber under the feet gives edge hold and some degree of stability and pop, but not as much a full cambered snowboard or ski.
Is reverse camber the same as rocker?
Rocker (also called reverse-camber) is just as it sounds – camber turned upside down. All skis and snowboards, rockered or cambered, when put on edge and weighted in a turn achieve reverse-camber. Wide ski and board shapes designed primarily for powder are often rockered.
What does Lib Tech mean?
Liberace Technologies
Lib-Tech is actually short for Liberace Technologies after the famous pianist/singer known for his flashy outfits and flamboyant lifestyle.
What does rocker do on a snowboard?
Rocker / Reverse Camber – A bend in the shape of a snowboard raising the nose and tail of the snowboard slightly. This shape engages the nose and tail edges of your snowboard less and in return gives your snowboard higher maneuverability and float on top of heavy or deep snow.
What is catching an edge in snowboarding?
Catching an edge is when a snowboarder is tripped up by the leading edge of their snowboard getting caught in the snow. It is a common reason for beginners to crash, and the main reason that learning to snowboard has a reputation for being a bit painful.
What is Hybrid Camber good for?
A Directional Hybrid Camber is often used on freeride boards. The camber towards the tip and tail produces the kind of pop you get out of camber whilst the rocker between the feet give it a looser feel and better float in powder than a traditional camber ride, and allows for easier turn initiation.
What is the difference between regular and reverse camber snowboards?
Regular camber is the arch a snowboard displays when laid flat on the surface. This means that the tip and tail of the board rest flat against ground, but the middle of the board is actually elevated off the surface. Now, zero camber and reverse camber snowboards are beginning to command a lot of attention and popularity.
What is a camber/rocker/camber hybrid?
The camber/rocker/camber hybrid (also known as the hybrid rocker) combines the camber’s tip and tail with the middle part of a rocker. This is so you can get the same pop as you would find with a camber, while also capturing that perfect float along deeper powder areas, as you would with a rocker.
What percentage of snowboards have hybrid camber?
Overall 76\% of the boards I analysed had some form of Hybrid profile, with 9\% traditional camber, 13\% Rocker/Reverse Camber and 2\% flat, making up the other 24\%. If you want a more detailed page about the different camber profiles and the styles they suit check out my snowboard camber profiles explained post.
What is the difference between a cambered and a rockered board?
On the downside, it isn’t as fast and doesn’t hold an edge like a cambered board. Jibbers and rail riders will often opt for a rockered board, as they’re more manoeuvrable and less likely to catch an edge. Rocker boards feature raised contact points. What does it look like?
