What is ranitidine used to treat?

Ranitidine is used to treat ulcers; gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and injury of the food pipe (esophagus); and conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

When should I take ranitidine tablets?

Ranitidine can be taken with or without food. To prevent heartburn and acid indigestion, take ranitidine 30-60 minutes before eating food or drinking beverages that can cause indigestion. Do not take more than 2 tablets in 24 hours unless directed by your doctor. Follow all directions on the product package.

Is it safe to use ranitidine?

Recent lab testing for determining the safety of ranitidine has shown unsafe amounts of a cancerous chemical called NDMA in certain ranitidine products. This has been confirmed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which released a statement on the NDMA impurity in ranitidine on September 13, 2019.

It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. It relieves symptoms such as cough that doesn’t go away, stomach pain, heartburn, and difficulty swallowing. Ranitidine belongs to a class of drugs known as H2 blockers.

Why is ranitidine taken at night?

Ranitidine decreases stomach acid production. Like other functions, stomach acid production has a circadian rhythm. It’s highest at night between 10:00 pm and 2:00 am. When ranitidine is used for ulcers, the dose is once a day at bedtime or twice daily.

How long does ranitidine last?

You should get relief from heartburn and indigestion symptoms within an hour or so of taking a dose of ranitidine and its effects last for about 12 hours.

How can I reduce acidity during pregnancy?

The following tips may help relieve your heartburn:

  1. Eat smaller meals more frequently and avoid drinking while eating.
  2. Eat slowly and chew every bite thoroughly.
  3. Avoid eating a few hours before bed.
  4. Avoid foods and beverages that trigger your heartburn.
  5. Stay upright for at least one hour after a meal.

Is ranitidine an antibiotic?

Ranitidine belongs to a class of drugs known as H2 blockers. This medication is also available without a prescription. It is used to prevent and treat heartburn and other symptoms caused by too much acid in the stomach (acid indigestion).
