What is needed for grade 3 piano?

You need 100 marks to achieve Pass, 120 marks to pass with Merit and 130 marks to pass with Distinction. Find out about our Performance Grades, an alternative route to a graded music exam. Practical Piano Grade 3 exams consist of three pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading, and aural tests.

Is Grade 3 Piano hard?

Grade 3 RCM and Grade 3 ABRSM are roughly equivalent in difficulty, which is why I’m doing a combined video of the two. For Grade 3 RCM exams, you need to prepare 5 pieces: 2 etudes (studies), and 3 repertoire pieces. For Grade 3 ABRSM exams, you need to prepare 3 repertoire pieces.

What scales do you need to know for Grade 3?

For grade three, you also need to know the minor scales with up to four sharps or flats in the key signature:

  • B minor.
  • G minor.
  • F# minor.
  • C minor.
  • C# minor.
  • F minor.

What is the Abrsm exam?

ABRSM exams are music exams rather than instrumental or singing exams. Examiners assess the quality of the music-making, not how it’s achieved. For this reason, we don’t restrict examiners to assessing only their own instrument but require them to examine all instruments.

Is Abrsm Grade 3 hard?

I haven’t found any problem with pupils and grade 3 piano, but grade 3 theory has quite a bit of hard stuff in it, like melodic minor scales. IMHO the quantity of grade 7 and 8 piano scales is massive.

How do I prepare for Grade 3 ABRSM exams?

For Grade 3 ABRSM exams, you need to prepare 3 repertoire pieces. The RCM and ABRSM both have 3 categories for pieces at this level – List A, List B and List C. List A pieces in the RCM are Baroque dances.

Practical Piano exams consist of three pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading, and aural tests. Total marks in all individual Practical exams are 150. You need 100 marks to achieve Pass, 120 marks to pass with Merit and 130 marks to pass with Distinction. There are eight grades of assessment.
